Why an Orthodontist in Watauga? Orthodontist vs. Dentist

An orthodontist is a dentist, but a dentist is not an Orthodontist. Dr. Douglas Shaw has spent years studying nothing but how and why to move teeth, as have all orthodontists. This includes what to do, how to plan, and how to execute the necessary treatment plan for you. Not every dentist is qualified to be an orthodontist, even though every orthodontist starts as a dentist. Dr. Douglas Shaw, like all orthodontists, continued their education for 2 or 3 additional years before receiving the necessary license and certification.

Why does it matter if you see your Watauga Orthodontist?

Dentists receive basic orthodontic training so they can perform root canals, extract wisdom teeth, and treat young children who don’t need to see an orthodontist yet. Specialists, on the other hand, receive additional training to give them the skills needed to deal with more complex orthodontic issues.

Seeing a specialist like your Watauga orthodontist may change your braces experience by:

  • Providing more treatment options, with a variety of braces or therapies to choose from
  • Having personal experience treating multiple cases that are similar to your unique concerns and anatomical characteristics.
  • More efficient treatment and visits, because it’s the office’s main focus.
  • Knowing that you’ll receive the best possible outcome on your treatment plan, especially if you have worse than usual bite discrepancies that need to be dealt with
  • Being seen more quickly, as a family dentist will be focused on longer patient cases or emergencies throughout the day.

And don’t let price be a problem either! Shaw Orthodontics is proud to provide affordable treatment in the Watauga area.

While you may think it’s easier to have your orthodontic work done by your dentist, convenience shouldn’t be a barrier to seeing a specialist. You will only be stopping by your Watauga orthodontic offices every six to eight weeks.

Testimonials from your Watauga orthodontist patients

Wow! I had only come in to get a retainer replaced but was pleasantly surprised by how welcoming and kind everyone in the office was. They not only got me in and out quickly but also eased my worries about my teeth shifting while also getting to know me as a person. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a friendly and efficient orthodontist!

An orthodontic office that cares! I took my daughter in for a consultation and was very impressed with how everything was explained from the plan of care to how the benefits work to set up a payment plan and appointment scheduling. The office staff is professional and addresses all concerns and the appointment wasn't rushed. I would definitely recommend family and friends. Thank you, Dr. Shaw and Carrie.

Thank you so much to the entire staff at Shaw Ortho. We had a fantastic experience with Dr. Shaw. We walked into an office of cheerful employees, all with big, bright, beautiful smiles. Carrie with finance was wonderful in explaining the different options that my insurance provider offers all in a very professional, and caring manner. Dr. Shaw’s presentation was professional but also humorous which my daughter enjoyed. His use of state of the art equipment and the latest technology made the process quick and painless.
