Invisalign Treatment for Teens
Invisalign treatment is a popular option for teens, offering a mix of reliability and comfort. It’s ideal for busy parents, too, because you’ll never have emergency appointments caused by broken wires or brackets.
Invisalign treatment often requires fewer appointments than traditional metal braces because your teen receives their Invisalign aligners in advance, and each visit requires less time in our office.
We see the typical Invisalign teen patient once every eight weeks for a total average treatment time of 9 to 15 months.
Invisalign® for Adults
The flexibility that comes with being able to remove your Invisalign clear aligners when you eat, brush, or during special occasions makes them a top choice for adults.
Invisalign® treatment is very well suited for the active lifestyles of most adults today. Invisalign® aligners are comfortable and easy to use, fitting perfectly over your teeth, and you only need to remove them to eat and do your regular oral hygiene. Additionally, if you have a special occasion to attend, you have the flexibility to remove your aligners.
You’ll enjoy more freedom in your diet choices than with traditional braces, too. The best part might be that Invisalign treatment is about the same price as regular braces, and we can work with you and your insurance to create a payment plan that suits your budget.
Smile Express® At-Home Teeth Straightening for Adults
Using proven Invisalign aligners and advanced remote care technology, Smile Express works in as few as 6 months to reveal your best smile. You’ll get to keep your active lifestyle without sacrificing the peace of mind that comes with knowing Shaw Orthodontics is with you every step of the way. Plus, it’s covered by most dental insurance plans!
Are Invisalign Clear Aligners Right for You?
While Invisalign aligners may not always be the treatment approach we recommend, Invisalign treatment can help treat a wide variety of orthodontic issues, as thousands of smiling Shaw Orthodontics patients are happy to verify.
In general, Invisalign offers:
- A more aesthetic appearance — unless you like the “tin grin” look of braces, which many of our patients do.
- Shorter treatment time, on average, especially when we add our remote care option (no extra cost).
- Less time at the orthodontist.
- Fewer dietary restrictions.
- Easier oral hygiene routine compared to brackets and wires.
Our Invisalign treatment plans are also about the same cost as braces in most cases, so in many ways, the choice between removeable clear aligners and fixed braces comes down to whether the benefits of Invisalign treatment fit your lifestyle.
The Invisalign Treatment Process
We’ll take photos and X-rays to create a 3D image of your mouth. We make your first set of custom-fitted aligners from these images, and then you begin the process of straightening your teeth.
You will probably wear Invisalign aligners for 9-15 months, and you will typically use 18-30 sets during your treatment.
You wear the trays for about 22 hours a day but can remove them for brushing your teeth and eating.
Based on your individual needs, you will wear several sets of trays throughout your orthodontic treatment, and you will start to notice a change in just a few months!
A Modern Approach to Orthodontic Treatment
Invisalign clear aligners take a modern approach to straightening teeth. It uses a custom-made series of aligners created for you and only you. These aligner trays are made of smooth, comfortable, and virtually invisible plastic that you wear over your teeth.
Wearing the aligners will gently move your teeth into place little by little, based on the exact movements we plan for you. There are no metal brackets to attach and no wires to tighten. You just pop in a new set of aligners about every week or so until your treatment is complete (the wear time varies from patient to patient, so always follow your Shaw Orthodontics doctor’s advice about when to change aligners).
You’ll get a great smile without a treatment that gets in the way of your daily life. The best part about the whole process is that most people won’t even know you’re straightening your teeth.
This nearly-invisible option to straighten your teeth is truly changing the way people see orthodontic treatment. Our doctors have more experience treating patients with Invisalign than about 99% of orthodontic practices worldwide, and we’re excited to offer this technology to our Rockwall, Watauga, and Greenville patients.
The Difference Between Invisalign Aligners and Braces
Unlike traditional braces, smooth plastic Invisalign aligners don’t have metal components that can irritate your mouth. Because they’re removed when you eat, you won’t have to watch what you eat like you would when wearing braces — bring on the popcorn and peanuts! In fact, the aligners must be removed for eating and for drinking anything other than water. You need to make sure you’re willing to do that before you decide on Invisalign clear braces. To prevent staining, you’ll need to clean your teeth before putting the aligners back on after each time you eat. Of course, brushing and flossing are much easier than with traditional braces since you don’t have to work around any brackets and wires.
How to Maintain Your Invisalign Clear Aligners
It's important to wear your aligners for at least 22 hours each day for them to do their job and straighten your teeth. But, with Invisalign, you can remove your aligners for special occasions. As with traditional braces, you will generally need to wear a retainer after Invisalign treatment to maintain your new alignment — and your confident new smile. Invisalign may not be recommended for some complex alignment or bite issues, or for those who have bridgework. We can advise you about what options are best for you.
